Inexpensive Wall Art

April 27, 2010 by Linda @ Linda's Lunacy

When we first moved into this house, 11 years ago, I was looking for a picture to hang in the kitchen. I couldn’t find anything that I like, at a price I was willing to pay.

I finally found a dish towel that I liked, so I took that to the local copy shop. I had the dish towel copied onto large paper. The lady thought I was a little weird at first, but she liked the result. It was only $2. or $3. for the copy.

I found the frame at Walmart, for under $10. I painted, yes painted, the inside mat as it didn’t match the picture. That’s the narrow burgundy strip around the picture. The frame had been black, so I sanded it down and painted it green. I then sanded it again to give it an aged looked. I used craft paint that I already had. So for under $15, I had a nice picture. A framed print can easily cost $30. or more, so I definitely saved money, while getting a picture that I loved.

I still have this picture hanging on my kitchen wall. I still love it!

What’s For Dinner?

April 26, 2010 by Linda @ Linda's Lunacy

It’s another simple menu week here. maybe soon I’ll have the energy and motivation to go beyond simple.  But my family is satisfied with simple meals, and I’m eating a lot of salads, so no real motivation happening here. Wonder if that will change anytime soon? ummmm……not likely!

Saturday – hot dogs, veggies
Sunday – sandwich day!
Monday – slop – which is fried cabbage, potatoes and hot dogs, salad
Tuesday – spaghetti, salad
Wednesday – leftover day!, salad
Thursday – oven fried chicken, green beans, rice
Friday – hamburgers with all the fixings, maybe potato salad or macaroni salad

Saturday on the Farm

April 24, 2010 by Linda @ Linda's Lunacy

We had a good week this week. Unfortunately, we didn’t get any garden work done.

Well, Hannah planted some flower bulbs, but that’s all. No veggies. But this coming week, for sure.

We spent the week chasing baby goats. sigh…….they are eating all the plants and trees in the yard. D has tried fixing the fence. but they keep getting out…….somewhere……

We have to fix it soon, or we won’t have any plants or trees left!

Another one of our cats had kittens on Friday. She had 5 kittens. So now we have 9 kittens. The kids think they are keeping them all. Nope, sorry kids, not happening.

I don’t even have any pictures to post this week. We have been so busy with other stuff. Like Bible Drill. That’s why this post is late, we had a State Bible Drill that took all day today.

So I’ll be back next Saturday with pictures, and the new Saturday on the Farm Carnival!

Please join me next Saturday for the Saturday on the Farm Carnival!

The Bridegrooms – A Book Review

April 23, 2010 by Linda @ Linda's Lunacy

I was sent a copy of The Bridegrooms to review.

Tragedy hits the Allenhouse family on a hot summer night in Ohio when a mother of four vanished. Eight-year-old Vada virtually grew up overnight and raised her three younger sisters while her father lost himself in his medical practice in the basement of their home.

Now, Vada is a grown woman, still making her home with her father and sisters. Her days are spent serving as an errand girl for Cleveland’s fledgling amateur orchestra; her evenings with Garrison Walker, her devoted, if passionless, beau.

Dizzying change occurs the day the Brooklyn Bridegrooms come to town to play the Cleveland Spiders and a line drive wallops the head of a spectator. The fan is whisked to the Allenhouse parlor, and questions swirl about the anonymous, unconscious man.

Suddenly, the subdued house is filled with visitors, from a flirtatious, would-be sports writer to the Bridegrooms’ handsome star hitter to the guilt-ridden ballplayer who should have caught the stray shot. The medical case brings Dr. Allenhouse a frustration and helplessness he hasn’t felt since his wife’s disappearance. Vada’s sisters are giddy at the bevy of possible suitors. And Vada’s life is awakened amid the super-charged atmosphere of romantic opportunity.

My Review

The story unfolds over the course of one week. The book is divided into daily sections, i.e. Saturday, Sunday, Monday. I don’t think I have ever read a book that was divided into daily sections. I really enjoyed this format. It was different, and made it easy to follow the story.

If you read my blog, you’l know that once I start to read a good book, I can’t put it down. That’s what happened with this book, also. In fact, I read it twice before writing this review. Just because I liked it!

I would recommend The Bridegrooms to anyone who likes to read. Guess that pretty much covers everyone. lol

This book was provided for review by the WaterBrook Multnomah Publishing Group.

Making a Skirt Out of Pants

April 23, 2010 by Linda @ Linda's Lunacy

My daughter wanted to make a new skirt, so yesterday so got out the sewing machine. She took a pair of pants that she didn’t want anymore, and turned them into a skirt.

Here’s the front:

And here’s the back:

Turning a pair of pants into a skirt only takes an hour or two, depending on how fast you work. The first one will take the longest. After that, they go quick.

Skirts can be expensive, if you can even find them anymore. And the ones that I have seen in the stores are way to short! Turning a pair of pants into a skirt can save you lots of money.

The Family Homestead has some nice pictures of skirts that they have made, as well as links to how-to’s.

For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.

For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.
