Storing Measuring Cups

March 17, 2010 by Linda @ Linda's Lunacy

I like to bake a lot but I dislike having to stop in the middle of a recipe to wash out measuring cups. So I have 4 sets of dry measuring cups.

I, of course, always stack them up nice and neat when I put them away.

*cough, cough*

When the kids put the dishes away, they see no need to stack them. Why stack them when you can throw them in the cabinet, then laugh when they fall out on your mothers head?

Therefore, the cabinet usually always looked like this:

Not only did they always fall out, but it made it difficult to find the measuring cup you were looking for. Very frustrating.

But now my cabinet looks like this:

I stacked all 4 sets of measuring cups in a bin. Problem solved.

Now, even if the kids don’t stack them neatly, they will all at least be in the bin.

And they won’t fall out on my head!

Storing Gadgets in a Small Kitchen

March 16, 2010 by Linda @ Linda's Lunacy

I love gadgets. Peelers and cutters and slicers, oh my!

The problem? (because having lots of gadgets is not a problem!) I only have four drawers in my small kitchen. I use one drawer as a spice drawer, which I posted about HERE and HERE

I could use about 4 more drawers in my kitchen. Which is not an easy fix. Unless you count re-doing the whole kitchen, an easy fix. And I’m sure my husband doesn’t!

So I have had to get creative with storage in my kitchen. I like to hang gadgets on the wall. You can get more storage in your kitchen by going vertical, and you get interesting wall decor at the same time.

Here’s a picture of one wall in my kitchen. I even hung my large wooden rolling pin. I also hung my cast iron corn muffin pans.

Start Here – Blog Tour – Book Review & Giveaway

March 15, 2010 by Linda @ Linda's Lunacy

**This contest is now over, and a winner has been picked! Random.org picked comment #5. Congratulations Pam! I have sent you an email. Thanks to everyone who visited my blog and entered the contest!

My older daughter used to read The Rebelution Blog when she was a teenager. Reading this book reminded of that blog, and I recommended it to my current teenagers.

I had heard about Alex & Brett Harris’s 1st book, Do Hard Things, but haven’t read it. Now I wish I had! I’m definitely going to be ordering one with my next book order.

I absolutely loved Start Here Doing Hard Things Right Where You Are by Alex & Brett Harris!

This book is written for teenagers and young adults, but in my opinion, everyone can benefit from reading this book.

This book answers such questions as: How do I get started? What hard things does God want me to do? How do I keep from getting discouraged or burned out? What is the best way to inspire others?

Using their own story, as well as the stories of others, the Harris brothers will inspire you to find out what God’s plan is for your life, and start doing it. They will help you when you are feeling discouraged because things aren’t going the way you thought they would. Or your burned out because you’re having a hard time finding someone to help or mentor you. They will also help you figure out if this is the right time for you to be doing this hard thing. Or if God wants for you to wait on this specific hard thing until it’s His time for it.

There are discussion questions in the back of the book that can be used by yourself, or as part of a group. This would be great for youth groups!

There is even a list of 100 Hard Things in the back of the book to get you started.

I highly recommend this book to everyone, from young teens to older adults. I’m going to give my copy to my teens to read. I would also like to buy a copy, as well as a copy of Do Hard Things, to give to the youth at our church.

They gave me a copy to giveaway!

Just leave a comment on this post and you’ll be entered to win a copy of Start Here Doing Hard Things Right Where You Are by Alex & Brett Harris.

Contest ends Saturday, March 20,2010, at 6 p.m. when I will use random.org to choose a winner

*DISCLAIMER – This book was provided for review by WaterBrook Multnomah Publishing Group. I also received a copy to giveaway. I received no other compensation for reviewing this book. This review is my own opinion.

Saturday on the Farm

March 13, 2010 by Linda @ Linda's Lunacy

I’m starting a new regular feature today: Saturday on the Farm. Where I will give updates on all our farm animals and activities.

I’m looking forward to it!

We had several goats born in January:

Update number 1

Update number 2

Update number 3

We are still bottle feeding the little boy goat that the kids named Lucky. We just cut his bottle feedings down to twice a day from 3 times. He’s taking 16-18 ounces at each feeding. He’s quite the little piggy, always wanting more milk.

We’re following the feeding schedule on Fiasco Farm.

All those babies keep getting out of the fence. They’re keeping my children very busy putting them back in.

We can tell Spring is almost here. The crocuses are up, and things are starting, starting, to turn green. It looks like some of the Daffodils will be opening today. I can see leaf buds on some of the bushes.

While I was out taking pictures I checked the herb garden. I found the chives starting go grow. Now to keep the chickens from eating them before I do!

It’s been a long, hard winter, so we are very grateful for signs of Spring!

For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.

For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.
