Blooming Flowers

August 11, 2010 by Linda @ Linda's Lunacy 9 Comments

It has been another hot week here in Kentucky! So hot, that I don’t even want to venture outside to take pictures. Not that there are very many flowers out there to photograph. Anyway, I sent my daughter out to take pictures for me, and this is what she came back with.

Some of the Glads she planted are still blooming.

And the 2 Butterfly Bushes still have a lot of blooms on them.

And in the herb garden behind the house, the Feverfew still has blooms on it. I love these little flowers! (um….ignore the weeds, please!)

There is nothing new out there, though. There are only a couple of Hibiscus blooms left, we only had 1 Day Lilly open this week. I’m still very please with all the Jewelweed around. Our roses haven’t had any new blossoms in weeks. I’m not sure what’s going on with them.

So it’s just been a really hot week, where the flowers don’t even want to come out and play!

I’ve been talking lots of butterfly pictures this week. Our butterfly bush is just full of them. This morning, I managed to get a picture of a butterfly on the mimosa tree. They were going from blossom to blossom. Taking  this picture was no easy feat, as I’m short and the tree is tall. lol
Here’s a little video I took of the butterflies on the butterfly bush.

Blooming Flowers

Well, I went for a walk, and didn’t find anything new to photograph. Oh, the 2 butterfly bushes are in full bloom, as well as the 3 hibiscus bushes. There are still glads blooming, and one lone lily bloomed this week. But I have shared those a lot already.
I did find a surprise while out for a walk. I found Jewelweed growing where it isn’t supposed to. And that would be in the creek. lol The creek has dried up, and the weeds have taken over. I was pleasantly surprised to find the Jewelweed!
In this picture, I am standing beside the driveway, and the goat pen is behind the bush. Alas, I don’t have any close-ups of the pretty little orange flowers. The pictures all came out really dark. It was actually sprinkling when I was taking these pictures and I had to use the zoom. Otherwise, I would have fallen into the creek. lol No, I wouldn’t have gotten wet, but there is about a 3 foot drop between the grass in the picture, and the bush. Nope, I’m not going there! lol
Anyway, we have had Jewelweed in other places on the property, but this is the first time in that spot.
I found out this spring that you can use Jewelweed to treat poison ivy. One site said to take the leaves and freeze them into ice cubes, then you can put the ice cubes onto your poison ivy.
Hopefully, the leaves in the ice will stop people from using those ice cubes in their drinks!
While on my walk, I enjoyed seeing the Lambs Ear in the Bible Garden getting so big. No blossoms yet, but soon.  And just to keep it real, I included a weed in the picture. lol

We’ve had quite a bit of ran this week. We needed it, though, our creek had dried out. In between the rain, I managed to take a couple of pictures.
The Hibiscus bushes are in full bloom. This is bush number 1.
Bush number 2 has pretty pink flowers.
Bush number three is the biggest bush.
We usually have to tie the bush together, but we haven’t yet this year. Considering all the rain we’ve had, the bushes are holding their own, only a couple of droopy branches.
The Butterfly bush is living up to its name, and attracting lots of butterflies. This one is on the big white butterfly bush right outside our front door. It’s pretty cool to be able to look the living room windows and see lots of butterflies on the bush.

For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.

For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.
