When I Can’t Sleep…..

March 10, 2010 by Linda @ Linda's Lunacy

For the last year or so, I have had trouble staying asleep at night. Oh, I go to sleep just fine when I lay down, within a couple of minutes of laying down, I’m out. It’s staying asleep at night, that is the problem.

It doesn’t matter how long I lay there tossing and turning, some nights I’m awake for 2 or 3 hours at a time. So frustrating.

There are a few things that I have tried to put me back to sleep,

– going on the computer for a little while usually makes me tired enough to fall back asleep, but the experts say the bright light will only make you more awake.

– reading, also, will make me fall back asleep. But the light bothers my husband while he’s trying to sleep, even the little bedside table lamp bothers him. Reading by flashlight bothers my eyes.

My solution?

I have started to keep my mp3 player under my pillow, and if I wake up, I just pull it out. I can turn it on without turning on a light, so I don’t bother my husband.

I have Bible verses on there, as well as praise music that I listen to. Just make sure you pick calming music, not rock music. Podcasts would be great, too.

I keep the volume down low, and I lay there resting, enjoying listening to calming music and Bible verses. So even though I’m not sleeping, I’m getting some rest.

Keeping my mp3 player under my pillow for those sleepless nights Works For Me!

Works For Me Wednesday – Netti Pot

March 4, 2010 by Linda @ Linda's Lunacy

I love my netti pot! A netti pot is for washing out your sinus’s. It is incredibly helpful when you have a cold. It is invaluable when you have a sinus infection and allergies. I have been having trouble with allergies this winter, a first for me. And I have been having recurring sinus infections. oh, what fun….NOT

Here’s a link that explains how to use a neti pot. And, of course, you tube has a video

Here’s the netti pot I have, at cvs.com. I bought mine in store at Walmart, but Walmart.com isn’t showing any.

Walgreens.com has a few to choose from, including the one I have.

Telephone Log

October 28, 2009 by Linda @ Linda's Lunacy

I keep a composition book by the telephone and computer. I write all the telephone messages in it. Messages for other people, prayer requests on our churchs prayer chain, and when the prepaid cell phone provider calls with codes to get extra minutes I write it all in the phone log.

It’s also handy to have next to the computer to jot down things I want to remember, usernames, passwords, etc. But not passwords you want to hide from other people!

It’s also extremely helpful when other people answer the phone. They know exactly where to right down the message at. It’s easy for those that have been out of the house, to check and see if they have any messages.

I also like to look back at the prayer requests and see all the answers to prayer that God has provided. 🙂

Keeping a telephone log works for me!

Kitchen Utensils

October 21, 2009 by Linda @ Linda's Lunacy

I love having lots of kitchen utensils and gadgets. 🙂 Since I only have 4 drawers in my kitchen, storage space is a problem.

I used to collect food tins, I had quite a large collection. Since we moved into this house having a place to put them all was a problem. So I downsized my collection quite a bit.

I was very sad to see most of them go, although I did keep a few of my favorites.

I put two of my favorite Hershey tins on the counter and put my spatulas, large spoons, and the like in them.

It frees up drawer space, and I get to have a couple of my favorite tins out on the counter.

It Works for Me!

How to Save Kid’s Large School Projects

March 25, 2009 by Linda @ Linda's Lunacy

We’ve been homeschooling since 1991, when K started kindergarden. (Technically, though, we’ve been homeschooling since he was born.) That’s almost 18 years of homeschooling! Since Z’s 8, we still have 9 more years to homeschool!

One of the frustrating things about homeschooling, is all the “stuff”. Since I still have lots of “things” papers, projects, etc. left from K & M, I have lots of “stuff” in our schoolroom.

I really want to get out from under some of this stuff. So I’m in the process of cleaning it all out. No small feat!

One of the things I’m doing is to photograph the projects to scrapbook, and getting rid of the item. Oh, it’s so hard to let go!

We made the above statues out of clay for the 2002 winter olympics. A & Z were really little, A made a snowboard on a snowpile, and Z made a curling rock. Hey, he was 2! lol One statue already lost its head.

I’m getting rid of my skier also. I never could get his head to stay upright. So I said he was looking up at the flag after he won. roflol

Cutting the clutter by taking pictures of projects Works For Me.

I imagine I will be looking at the scrapbooks a lot, as I will miss having these items around, but it’s for the best. We’ll have room for more projects!

Works For Me Wednesday – Store Card Passwords

March 11, 2009 by Linda @ Linda's Lunacy

I’ll just say it up front….I’m bad about forgetting passwords.

There I said it….I can’t remember stuff….or anything…depending on the day.

I hit upon the idea of writing my password on the back of my store cards, and Walgreens Gift card.

That way, when I’m ready to load coupons on my Kroger card, or filing for Walgreens monthly rebates, I just have to grab the card I’m going to be using, and the password is right there!

It saves me time, since I don’t have to wait for an email from the store website reminding me what my password is.

It’s the simple things that make our lives easier. And that Work’s For Me.

NOTE – Please DO NOT use this tip on your debit cards, credit cards (or store gift cards if you have a high balance on them)

If your cards are lost or stolen, others would have your password. not good.

Works For Me Wednesday – Favorite Foods

March 4, 2009 by Linda @ Linda's Lunacy

I cook 7 days a week. No, really, I do! So is it any wonder that I have several Works for Me Wednesday entries about food? Nope, no surprise to me! lol

Here are a few of my entries:

I shared several ideas on quick suppers with hamburger. I still use these ideas, and recently had a request from my family for the Crockpot Cheeseburgers so I will be making those soon.

Chicken Parmesan is still a family favorite. And it’s so easy!

Anytime you have leftovers in the fridge is a good time to make Easy Stir Fry Rice. And so good, too!

It took me longer than I care to say to figure out how to serve casseroles for my diabetic husband. It was such a help to me in planning meals when I figured that one out. We all get to eat the food we like, without unnecessarily raising my husbands blood sugar.

Cooking (great food!) everyday for my family Works For Me!

For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.

For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.
