What is He Thinking? Book Review & Giveaway

September 28, 2011 by Linda @ Linda's Lunacy

About “What Is He Thinking??”

In WHAT IS HE THINKING??, Rebecca interviews a range of men from high-profile types to the guys next door, men that every woman can relate to. Although the interviews focus on single guys ages 20-35, Rebecca also includes words of wisdom from older mentors she respects who have been successfully married for years, people like her dad, life coach, and pastor.

The men share their thoughts on topics like how women can respect themselves and the men in their lives, modesty, purity, taking it slow, friendship, letting guys lead, and more. This book gives them the floor to say what they would really like women to know.

The men respond candidly to questions such as:

  • What is the most attractive quality to you in a woman?
  • Is modesty truly attractive?
  • Is neediness a turn-off?
  • What do you find beautiful?
  • How can we be dependent on God for our identity, not on you?
  • How can we help you with boundaries physically?

Rebecca also discusses her own dating life, speaking openly about the single life, her struggle with loneliness, and her hope for the future. She challenges women to see the men in their lives as brothers in Christ and to trust God with their dating lives.

About Rebecca

Through these interviews, we see and hear how men feel about many different subjects that effect our relationships today.

Lilla Rose Flexi Clip Review & Giveaway

September 28, 2011 by Linda @ Linda's Lunacy

My girls and I all have long hair. Ranging from below the shoulders to below the waist. Keeping all this long hair tidy and pretty isn’t easy. And I do confess to pulling my below the waist length hair into a single braid in the back on most days. I have to have it back out of the way. Of course, that’s not always the prettiest way to wear one’s hair.

I sure would love to have my hair fixed in one of these styles every day.

Aren’t they gorgeous?! I received one of these Flexi-Clips to try. And it’s awesome! It was so easy to pull my hair back. The beautiful clip really dresses up my hair. Beautiful enough for special occasions, yet easy and comfortable enough for every day.

This is an actual picture of my actual hair with the medium sized Antique Brass Princess Tiara Flexi Clip.

Isn’t it beautiful? The clip, not my hair!

The clip was very comfortable to wear. I was afraid the beads would pull my hair, but they didn’t. It was also very easy to put in my own hair. My girls loved it, too. We all tried it on. And I have promised to share. lol

There are so many great styles of the Flexi Clip to choose from, here are a few:

The Flexi Clip comes in several different sizes ranging from mini to extra large. So even little girls with fine hair can use one of these beautiful Flexi Clips. It may seem confusing trying to decide what size you need. So make sure to watch the sizing video. It will help you choose the right clip for your hair. This is very important. You don’t want to get your new clip, only to have it be the wrong size.

Lilla Rose offers numerous other hair products as well. You can see them all at Jill’s Lilla Rose website. Jill also has a Lilla Rose Facebook Page where she post pictures, styling tips and videos, as well as Lilla Rose specials.

Jill is sponsoring a giveaway on Linda’s Lunacy! One winner will receive a $15 gift certificate to be used on Jill’s Lilla Rose Website. You could pick a Flexi Clip or one of the other great hair accessories. If your like me, you’ll have a hard time choosing!

Aletheia Writing Magazine

September 26, 2011 by Linda @ Linda's Lunacy

Aletheia Logo - Oval border

Aletheia Writing Magazine is a quarterly magazine focusing on the literary and artistic works of Christian teens. Aletheia is a Greek word meaning “truth” or “unveiling”. It’s pronounced Ah-LAY-thei-uh.

Aletheia gives Christian teens, homeschoolers and non-homeschoolers alike, the chance to have their work published. They publish stories, both short and longer, as well as poems, photographs, drawings, and even book reviews. All of their own choosing. The teens even pick the books they want to review.

Their website has a great has a great writing tips section. Their FAQ page tells you just what they are looking for in submissions. They even have a Aletheia Writing Magazine Facebook Page.

There is no monetary compensation, but if you do get published in Aletheia, they will send you three free copies of your issue so you can share it with family and friends.

Aletheia Spring 2011 Magazine Cover

Aletheia Writing Magazine is a great opportunity for Christian teens to get their work published. I hope some of my teens will submit their work!

You can view a sample of their Spring 2011 issue here.

The issue I received only had a couple of ads in it. These were the type of ads you would see in a homeschool magazine. So no offensive ads like you would see in other magazines geared towards teens. I was very happy to see that.

You can purchase a subscription to Aletheia Writing Magazine for $26 per year. A subscription includes four color issues per year, and the price includes shipping and handling.

*Aletheia Writing Magazine is geared toward youth ages 13 to 19. Because contributors’ ages vary, the maturity level of situational content may also vary. Please keep that in mind when giving this magazine to your younger teens. You might want to preview it first.

Our Homeschool Week in Review

September 26, 2011 by Linda @ Linda's Lunacy

We started something new last week. Sabbath Week. Every 7th week will now be Sabbath Week, which will be a week off of school work. Household chores and such are still required. As is Bible reading and studying Bible Drill verses. The kids enjoyed the week off. I have to say, I did too!

Even though we had the week off from school, the kids still kept busy. They make a show called The Geek Show. It’s little skits and such that they write (term used loosely, as to do a LOT of improv), act, direct and edit themselves. Well, Calen does most of the directing and and all the editing. they did another episode last week, and included a visiting cousin.

The only thing I don’t like about it is that they always tear the house apart. Here’s a picture of The Geek Show being filmed:

The room is trashed! (Yes, I made them clean it up!) Notice Hannah sitting on the floor holding the microphone up. Calen uses our home video camera and our digital camera that takes video and he edits it all together. As you can see, he also uses a green screen and inserts backgrounds on the computer. When I bought the kids new sheets earlier this year, Calen picked green sheets so he could also use the sheet as a green screen. roflol

I ordered some e-books for school last week. I ordered Digital Photography Unit Study by Amanda Bennet Click here to view more details. Which looks incredibly awesome. It’s a 4 week course. It will work perfect with our 6 week terms now that we take off every 7th week.

I also ordered The Passport United Kingdom 7-12th grade Click here to view more details. We do a unit study on the Olympics every Olympic year and include a study of the host country. This looks like an awesome study.

I also posted a review of a board game Tri-Cross lat week, in case you missed it. I review it as part of The Old Schoolhouse Homeschool Crew. We really loved this game. It’s lots of fun for all ages.

If your looking for a devotional book for your 8-12 year old girl, I did a review last week of a book called Hot Chocolate with God, Abby, my 12 yo, loved it.

It’s back to our regularly scheduled school work this week. Including a study of Rosh Hashanah. Should be fun!

For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.

For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.
