Keeping Recipes Handy

August 3, 2010 by Linda @ Linda's Lunacy

When I’m cooking or baking, I like to keep often used recipes close at hand. I don’t want to have to get out the big cookbook every time I make our favorites.
To keep those recipes handy, I hang them on the inside of the cabinet door.
Yeah, I didn’t even trim the recipe I ripped out of the flour bag. lol You could, of course, make it look neater. 🙂  The recipes I keep here, are always changing. Sometimes I have computer print-outs, and sometimes, actual recipe cards. lol I use tape to hang the recipes, unless I write them on large post it notes, like the white sheets are in this picture. I also use the tacky stuff that you can buy for hanging papers on the wall. You’ll have t o experiment to see what works best on your cabinet doors.
This is the cabinet that I keep my measuring cups, baking spices, vanilla, yeast, baking powder, baking soda & salt in. It’s very convenient to keep the recipes here, as I have to open the door to get the ingredients.

Bible in 90 Days – Week 5 Update

August 3, 2010 by Linda @ Linda's Lunacy

I can’t believe I’m starting Week 5!

I stayed up to date all last week, until the weekend. Saturday we had our son’s 10th birthday party, then went to our married daughters house for a cookout that evening. I didn’t get any reading done Saturday.

On Sunday, I did Saturdays reading, and half of Sundays. I’m thinking if I read a couple (or a few) extra chapters every day, I won’t get behind on the weekends. I’m finding the weekends harder than during the week. Has anyone else found that out?

I have to say, I will be glad to finish all the genealogies. I did notice in todays reading, that there were very few names repeated. I found that interesting. Now a days, there are a lot of people with the same names. Oh well, I just thought it was interesting.

What’s For Dinner?

August 3, 2010 by Linda @ Linda's Lunacy

Well, I had another week of not sticking to the menu. That’s ok. A menu is a tool, it’s not written in stone. Besides, there’s always next week!

Now for this weeks menu:

Saturday – beef – Cook out at married daughters house, we brought macaroni salad, cupcakes & marshmallows.

Sunday – sandwich day – Sandwiches with leftover macaroni salad & carrot sticks

Monday – chicken – Baked Chicken, baked potatoes, squash, coleslaw

Tuesday – beef – Steak, rice, salad

Wednesday – super simple – leftovers, coleslaw

Thursday – chicken – Asian Chicken Wraps (from the $5 Dinner Mom Cookbook), coleslaw

Friday – Friday Night Fire – Hamburgers with lettuce & tomatoes, macaroni salad or potato salad, carrot sticks

Saturday On The Farm

July 31, 2010 by Linda @ Linda's Lunacy

Saturday on the Farm

It’s another rainy morning on the farm. It has rained quite a bit this summer. I don’t know the official rain total amounts, I just know it’s rained a lot. In spite of the fact that we’ve had a lot of rain, our creek has dried up.

In this picture, the creek is coming from ups stream on one side of the house. There is a pool of water that probably has 27,999,997 mosquitoes in it! lol

And here’s the creek in the goat pen. See the lighter grass? That’s the creek! The tall weeds on the other side of the fence in the back, is where the creek comes into the goat pen. The branches on the fence in the front of the picture, is where the creek leaves the goat pen. When there is actually water in the creek!

The goats didn’t care that I wanted to take pictures, they wanted to see what I had for them. lol

I thought I’d share a picture of the hills. Inside the fence is part of the goats pasture. I’m standing across the field. See the kids standing at the first fence? The other fence is on top of the hill, with the neighbors cows being on the other side. It’s funny to see the cows standing at the fence staring at the goats. lol

I’m standing at the bottom of the hill looking up at the kids. It’s really steep! If you look close, you can see the fence posts from the upper fence. I don’t know how the goats can run down this hill without tumbling down! But they do, at full speed!

Here’s one of the pepper plants in the garden. It has lots of peppers of all sizes on it.

I’ve posted pictures of our squash plants before. But look at them now! The pesky groundhog has destroyed them! He has flattened them out, as well as chewed on the stalks. He’s just too quick to catch! My husband knows where his hole is, I guess he’s going to have to lie in wait for the groundhog to come out. I have no problem sharing a little of the produce with the animals, but do they have to destroy the plants? grrrrrrr

I’ve never shared a picture of our whole raspberry patch.

And a picture from the front. Eventually, there will be raspberries the entire length of the fence, on both sides. Maybe then some of the raspberries will actually make it in the house! We tend to stand outside and eat them as they’re ripe. lol So delicious!

There are a lot of new blossoms and new raspberries coming now.

Now for the grape vine. This is looking from the house to the driveway. The walkway from the driveway to the house goes through the grapevines. It makes me smile every time I walk through. 🙂 At this time of year, though, we have a hard time keeping the vines in place. As soon as we put them back out of the walkway, new ones pop out.

There will be no grapes for us from the vines this year. Oh, we had grapes. But the birds ate them all! See? Here’s evidence that we had grapes.

I hope you enjoyed the little tour of the farm.  Now it’s your turn!

July 28, 2010 by Linda @ Linda's Lunacy

* What are you currently reading? –    Spiritual Mothering by Susan Hunt The Titus 2 Model for Women Mentoring Women   –  So far, this is an interesting read. I think I’m going to learn a lot from this book.

* What did you recently finish reading? – I didn’t finish ANY books this week! Not cool!

* What do you think you’ll read next? – Becoming a Woman of Influence Making a Lasting Impact on Others by Carol Kent From the back cover – In this book you will learn 7 simple life changing principles Jesus used to influence others. Sounds good!

In addition to reading the above books, this week I continued a  Read the Bible in 90 days program. So that’s keeping me busy reading, also.

For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.

For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.
