Haircoverings.com Headband Review & Giveaway

January 10, 2014 by Linda @ Linda's Lunacy

I recently received two headbands from Haircoverings.com to review. Haircoverings.com carries all kinds of hair accessories. Scarfs, bandanas, hats, headbands, clips, and more. In a variety of style and colors. In other words, they have hair accessories everyone will love.

I’ve reviewed other scarfs and wide headbands for them in the past. These two new headbands are the same high quality as the previous products I’ve received.

I had my 18 year old daughter pick what she wanted me to review.  She has really long, thick hair, and is willing to be my model. I think she made two good choices.

Our Homeschool Week in Review

January 10, 2014 by Linda @ Linda's Lunacy

We started out this week with a winter storm, with record breaking low temps. Like below zero temps. so, one would think that housebound children would be more apt to get more schoolwork done. haha Not my kids. Any thing is a reason to have a party. And that includes the weather. lol

Oh, they did do their schoolwork, just not anything extra, and not much extra reading. Cold weather is best handled by sitting on the couch, bundled under blankets watching movies. Eating cookies and drinking hot chocolate.

In the Kitchen with Linda & Dinner Menu

January 6, 2014 by Linda @ Linda's Lunacy

Hannah made homemade hamburger buns for our cheeseburgers the other night. They came out great, with minimal complaining from the family about them not being store bought. She wants to make all our hamburger buns now. That works for me, even if I don’t get to eat them. Abby made chocolate chip cookies this week. None of the kids complain about getting to eat cookies. lol

The forecast for a big winter storm got me thinking about how I was going to feed the family if we lost electric. So Monday’s turkey got cooked on Sunday night. I also made 3 loaves of bread in the bread machine. I was going to be prepared if the electric did go out. lol

I’m switching up Wednesday & Thursday’s beef & chicken (turkey) this week to better fit the families schedule. We have an orthodontist appointment on Thursday, that’s why mashed potatoes is on the menu so much this week. I’ll make extra on Wednesday so she’ll have plenty to eat on Thursday. 🙂

Now…. to answer the question that I get asked about a hundred times a day……….What’s For Dinner? See my menu below! [Read more…]

Our Homeschool Week in Review

January 3, 2014 by Linda @ Linda's Lunacy

Since I last shared a week in review on December 6th, this will be more like a month in review. What can I say, it’s been really busy here.

The kids, and Dad, went to a concert at the beginning of December. The kids really enjoy these, and they make a nice once a year treat. Although, this was their 2nd concert for 2013. I forget who they saw, but it was about 6 different contemporary Christian artists. They had a blast!

Weeding Out Wheat – Book Review

December 30, 2013 by Linda @ Linda's Lunacy

I first started learning about eating wheat free a few years ago. After reading about a vitamin deficiency I had, I started researching other symptoms that I was experiencing. Everything I read pointed to wheat being the problem. I was able to confirm this by not eating wheat. When I added wheat back into my diet, my symptoms worsened.

I really struggled with eating wheat free. Not just because I wanted to eat bread, or cookies, or cupcakes. Rather, because the Bible speaks often of eating bread. So if the Bible says it’s ok to eat wheat, and even directs us to eat bread, how could I give up eating wheat? It just somehow seemed wrong, even if not eating wheat made me feel better.

That’s why I jumped at the chance to review Weeding Out Wheat: A Simple, Scientific, Faith-Based Guide by Luke & Trisha Gilkerson. I received the Kindle version of this book to review. Weeding Out Wheat was THE first, and so far the only, book I have seen that looked at eating wheat free from a faith based perspective. I was not disappointed in this book. It is full of great information backed up by science and the Bible.

I had already learned that our wheat is different from the wheat used in Bible times. Weeding Out Wheat covers this, explaining everything that has happened to our wheat, how it is processed, and how it can no longer be considered good for you. The book covers deciding if wheat is your problem, if eating wheat free is for you, and how to delete the wheat your diet. There is also a frequently asked questions section to help you find the answers to your questions. I really loved that all the information is backed by scientific studies.

The highlight of this book for me was the section Reconciling a Wheat-Free Diet with a Bread-Filled Faith. This section contains the chapters Wheat and Bread in the Bible, Wheat is a Provision, Not an Obligation, Does God Have a Diet Plan?, and The Bread of Life: Wheat-Free Communion?. These chapters did an excellent job of explaining what the Bible says about wheat. Even though bread is mentioned many, many times in the Bible, eating wheat is not a requirement. This information has helped me immensely. I no longer feel that eating wheat free conflicts with the many mentions of wheat in the Bible.

While there are no wheat free recipes in Weeding Out Wheat, the last chapter in the book is titled No Wheat? What in the World do I Eat?!  Here you will find a list of foods that you can eat, as well as tips for starting to eat wheat free. The authors do have a lot of recipes on their website, Intoxicated on Life.

I highly recommend Weeding Out Wheat. This book has been a great help to me, and strengthened my resolve to weed out the wheat from my diet so I can be healthier.

Starting December 30th through January 1st – Weeding Out Wheat will be on sale for $1.99 for Kindle. If you don’t have a Kindle, you can Amazon has a free PC for Kindle download that lets you read Kindle books on your computer.

In the Kitchen with Linda & Dinner Menu

December 30, 2013 by Linda @ Linda's Lunacy

It’s been a busy week in my kitchen. In addition to Christmas meals, I also was busy adjusting the menu to meet the nutritional needs of a family member put on a special diet. I don’t have to do too much differently, I just have to make sure that he gets no starches at all. Since my husband is a diabetic, I already am careful about serving starches, so not too much to adjust too.

Christmas morning, I served our traditional homemade cinnamon rolls and egg nog. My kids weren’t crazy about the homemade egg nog, that I served for the first night of Advent, so we had store bought this time. For the cinnamon rolls for Christmas morning, I make them the night before. I place them in the fridge overnight for the second rise. I take them out in the morning, let them sit for about 30 minutes. Then pre-heat the oven, and bake for the usual time. They always come out great. And so much easier than getting up early to make them!

For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.

For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.
