Magnesium – What It Is & Why You Need It

January 18, 2023 by Linda @ Linda's Lunacy Leave a Comment

*This Magnesium – What It Is & Why You Need It post contains an affiliate link

Magnesium is a mineral that is essential for healthy bones, muscle, nerves, and maintaining healthy blood sugar levels.

It is one of the most common nutritional deficiencies, followed by vitamin D, Approximately 80% of women are deficient in it!

The only way to know for sure if you are deficient in magnesium is a blood test.

Magnesium – What It Is & Why You Need It

Below are the symptoms of low magnesium. If you are experiencing any of these, see your health professional to get tested.

•Muscle pain and spasms from feet cramps to chest pain (due to spasms in your heart muscle), and even restless leg syndrome
•Headaches and migraines
•Feeling constantly fatigued or weak
•Depression, anxiety and edginess
•Craving chocolate (cacao is high in magnesium)
•Quick exhaustion during exercise
•Insomnia and mid-night waking

Magnesium also plays a huge role in hormonal balance.
Namely:

1. Improves the thyroid function
2. Supports estrogen detoxification of harmful metabolites
3. Lowers blood sugar levels
4. Lowers adrenalin and cortisol
5. Supports testosterone production (women have testosterone, too!)
6. Increases serotonin
7. Increases DHEA

It’s also used to treat constipation and heartburn.

With this in mind, eating magnesium-rich foods such as dairy products, whole grains, leafy green vegetables, seeds, nuts, and legumes should be a dietary priority.

Spinach, Dark Chocolate, Pumpkin seeds, Almonds, Black beans, Avocado, Figs, Yogurt or kefir, and Bananas all are sources of magnesium

If you need to supplement, this is the Magnesium supplement I use daily. It’s infused with Vitamin C and Bioflavonoids making it crazy effective and gentle on the body.

September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month

September 23, 2022 by Linda @ Linda's Lunacy Leave a Comment

*This September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month post contains affiliate links

September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. Only 4% of the National Cancer Institute’s budget is directed to pediatric cancer.

4%? Kids are not little adults. They need more research for chemo and other therapies just for kids!

September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month

Here are some warning signs of childhood cancer.

These are the major warning signs. But my cancer kid didn’t have any of these!

Appetite changes, but no weight loss. Kid just got picky, and didn’t like anything anymore. Including their favorite snack cake.

We had been going to the pediatrician for about a month with breathing issues. Only when laying down. We spent so many nights watching the kid to make sure they didn’t stop breathing. Put the kid in our bed, propped up on pillows so they could breath. Kid did not understand why we kept waking them up at night to sit up.

Pediatrician said asthma, and was treating for that but it didn’t help. We finally went to the ER one night. Kid was misdiagnosed by the ER doctor. But that chest xray led to the radiologist finally recognizing a problem.

A mass the size of a grapefruit in the kids little chest. Not a typical presentation for leukemia. Pediatrician sent us to a pulmonologist at UK. Poor pulmonologist had to be the one to tell us our kid had some kind of cancer, and sent us down the hall to the oncologist. We were admitted that day.

Kid is now a survivor! Coming up on 22 years since diagnose!
If you see that something is off with your kid, keep going to the doctor until you get an answer! Don’t let them put you off! Mom and Dad know when something is wrong!!

Sugar Cravings Are Not All In Your Head!

September 7, 2022 by Linda @ Linda's Lunacy Leave a Comment

Sugar cravings. We’ve all experienced them. They have you running for the nearest candy bar, desert, or sugary soda. Then we feel bad because we feel like failures for giving in to cravings. But sugar cravings are not all in your head!

I’m not talking about the sugar intake you plan for, dessert at a special meal, or birthday cake for your loved one’s birthday. Or your own birthday! I’m talking about the cravings that you have a hard time controlling. You HAVE to have some sugar NOW! If you’ve ever experienced these types of sugar cravings, then you know what I’m talking about.

Sugar Cravings Are Not All In Your Head!

Here’s some news for you! Most sugar cravings start in your gut, not your head!

Yes, your gut.

Our gut has good bacteria, and bad bacteria. We are born with a small amount of bad bacteria. That small amount can increase due to taking antibiotics, as well as eating & drinking sugar. By the time we are adults, that small amount of bad bacteria has likely grown into an over-growth.

Cutting down on sugar, and only taking antibiotics when medically necessary can help reduce that over-growth. It’s not enough, though. We have to introduce more good bacteria into our gut. The good bacteria kills the bad bacteria.

You have to weed, seed, and feed. Weed out the bad bacteria, plant new seeds of good bacteria, and feed that good bacteria. That’s what will make a difference in your gut health. Then your sugar cravings will end! For real!!

Here’s my favorite products for gut health. They really work! I take these supplements everyday! Feel free to ask any questions!

What is Wellness?

October 20, 2021 by Linda @ Linda's Lunacy Leave a Comment

This What is Wellness post contains affiliate links

“Health and Wellness” is a phrase that has been around for years. It’s still going strong, and only getting more popular.

But what is wellness??

What is Wellness?

Dictionary.com defines wellness as:

1. the quality or state of being healthy in body and mind, especially as the result of deliberate effort.

2. an approach to healthcare that emphasizes preventing illness and prolonging life, as opposed to emphasizing treating diseases.

So wellness is not just one thing.

It’s everything we do to try and stay healthy. The food we eat, the exercise we do, the supplements we take, our mental and emotional health.

Wellness is the whole package. Emotional health, mental health, and physical health.

Most of the time we think that Healthy = not sick.

But it’s more than that. It’s being proactive. We need to make sure we are doing everything we can to maintain our mental, emotional, and physical health.

Start Your Wellness Journey

It’s never too late to start! It doesn’t matter our age.

If you are not where you would like to be with your health and wellness. Start now!

Start with a visit to your doctor.

Then start slowly making changes in your diet, your exercise routine, and your supplements. It’s been proven that if we make slow changes, instead of big changes all at once, we are more apt to keep up with the changes we do make.

Try and focus on your mental and emotional health every day, too.

Do something you enjoy, just because you enjoy it. Surround yourself with people that build you up, not tear you down. Religion is a big part of mental and emotional health as well.

If you need help making changes, I recommend finding a health coach. (It’s what I want to be when I grow up! lol)

Give the Gift of Wellness This Mother’s Day

April 29, 2021 by Linda @ Linda's Lunacy Leave a Comment

*This post contains affiliate links

Mother’s Day is almost here. Give your mother the gift of wellness this year!

Here are a few of my favorite wellness products that I use and love. These would make great gifts for anyone, anytime of the year! If you have any questions, just ask!

The Breast Chek Kit is something that I think all women should have. It’s a tool to help with breast self exams. It makes it easier to feel any little lumps. I have one, and it really helps.

Joyome is a skin care line that works to balance your skins microbiome to keep it healthy. This isn’t make up, it’s skin care. We start losing collagen at age 25, so we all need this!

I have used Triplex for about 6 years now. Gut health is so important to our overall health. Gut health seems to be a buzz word that everyone is using now. But Triplex really works! I love it, and hope to never be without it, because it has really helped me.

Sometimes wellness refers to our mental and emotional health, too. Mom’s need time to relax, and do things that they find fun, and that are important to them. With Cratejoy, you can have a box sent to mom that she will thoroughly enjoy. There are many boxes to choose from, so you’re sure to find something your your mom loves. You can have a box sent one time, or pick a subscription.

Ok, this next gift might be a little tricky. You can’t just give your mom a scale and insinuate that she needs to lose weight. But…..if she has expressed an interest in all the things that todays scales can do, this is a great one. I bought this one for myself. It syncs with an app on your phone to tell you not only weight, but body composition. The app saves your data, and you can set goals, and see your progress. I love being able to track my progress with building muscle.

I discovered Thrive Market a few months ago. I live in a rural area, and would have to drive a hour and a half to two hours to get to a store that carries the same products. Now I can have them delivered right to my door. Here’s a picture of my last delivery.

From meat and other items needed for dinners, to snacks, supplements, personal care, and household items. They really have just about everything that you need. And it’s all high quality, sustainable products. I love that you can search for a specific diet need, keto, vegetarian, gluten free, and more. It will pull up all the gluten free, for example, items for you to look at.

Give your mother a membership and she will thank you! Send her her first order, and she will THANK YOU! lol You can send a gift card to cover the membership & add some extra for their first order. Go HERE to get 25% of your first order, and get a free gift, too!

Those are a few wellness items that I use and love.

And that I would love to receive as a gift, too!

How to Buy the Best Hand Sanitizer

December 3, 2020 by Linda @ Linda's Lunacy 37 Comments

*This how to buy the best hand sanitizer post contains affiliate links

Now a days, we all need to keep sanitizer on hand all the time.

Hand Sanitizer can be expensive, and hard to find, so make sure you are buying the best one for you.

Here are some tips.

How to Buy the Best Hand Sanitizer

1.     Be Sure About Alcohol Percentage

The amount of alcohol in the hand sanitizer is critically important and the most effective hand sanitizers consist of 60-85% alcohol by volume, so be sure to check the alcohol percentage before purchasing.

2.     Check Alcohol Type

Ethanol is proven to be more effective than isopropyl alcohol on its own against viruses. Be sure to check the type of alcohol to make sure you are purchasing the most effective hand sanitizer.

3.     Additional Ingredients

Check out the extra ingredients in the hand sanitizers as ingredients like Aloe, which is used in Smart Care hand sanitizers, help to smooth the skin upon application and reduce the dryness associated with alcohol.

4.     Proper Application is Important

In advance of application, make sure to clean all dirt and grease from your hands.  Apply a small dab of hand sanitizer to the palm of one hand, then rub your hands together. Make sure the sanitizer has dried before wiping your hands.

5.     Select a Brand with A Proven Reputation

Lastly, with the increasing number of brands on the market make sure to select a brand that has an established reputation for delivering performance and efficacy.

I recently received these Smart Care sanitizer products. Smart Care has been a leader in hand sanitizing products since 2015. They also carry some paper products, and first aid supplies. I saw some really cute disposable masks for kids, too!

These little character bottles are the best smelling hand sanitizer I’ve ever tried. If your kids won’t use hand sanitizer because of the smell, try these! There are several different licensed characters to choose from for all ages.

The antibacterial wipes are for only ages 3 and up. They are convenient to carry in your bag or purse when you don’t want to worry about liquid spilling.

The giveaway below is now over. I hope you found these tips for buying hand sanitizer helpful!

How to Find the Perfect Exercise for You!

November 11, 2020 by Linda @ Linda's Lunacy

*This perfect exercise post contains affiliate links

Exercise is so important to our health and well being.  We can’t truly be healthy without exercise.

The benefits of exercise are many. It reduces the risk of illness and disease.  We need weightbearing exercise for strong, healthy bones. Exercise helps with weight management. It reduces stress, and improves our mood. Just to name a few!

How to Find the Perfect Exercise for You!

1. Go see your doctor. Yes, that’s the first step to finding the perfect exercise for you. Talk to your doctor. Tell him/her that you want to start exercising and get cleared for new physical activity.

2. Decide what your health goals are. Improve your heart health? Lose weight? Stay active instead of slowing down with age? Build muscle? Increase your stamina? You have to choose the health goals that are important to you. Choosing all, or too many, will make it next to impossible for you to meet your goals. Pick one. Reach that goal or be well on your way to reaching it, before you add another one.

3. Think about the things you love to do. Did you love a certain sport when you were in school? Did you take skating/horseback riding/dance lessons? Is being out in nature your thing or do you prefer to be indoors? Once you focus on the things you love to do, you will be able to narrow down what exercise you will love. Take up those lessons again, find a sports team to play on. Go out and hike that mountain. Well, work your way up to the mountain. lol

4. Take a good look at your schedule. Committing several hours a week to a sports team/ dance lessons, etc. won’t work if your schedule is already full. No matter how hard you try, you will be setting yourself up for failure. You may need to start out smaller while you work on changing your schedule. Maybe your lunch hour is the only time you have. Take a walk instead of being on your phone or talking to others. Get them to go on a walk with you!

5. Do you like to exercise with others? Or do you prefer to be alone? if you prefer to be alone and you take a large exercise class/join a team, you aren’t going to be able to keep with it. And vice versa. Do you want/need someone with you to tell you what to do every step of the way? If you do, getting a trainer or coach will really help you. If you don’t, getting a trainer will make you miserable, and you will stop.

This is what I’ve been using for the last few months to get my exercise in. HERE I’m loving it!

Once you find what you love, that fits with your personality, and schedule, it’s time to get moving!
