Bible in 90 Days Weekly Check In

October 14, 2012 by Linda @ Linda's Lunacy

As we begin Week 9, today, Monday, is Day 57.

Due to a cold going through the house, I did not have as much time to get my reading done as I would have liked. Taking care of sick family takes a lot of time. Needless to say, I am still behind.

I am still reading and making progress. I am most definitely NOT giving up. And neither should you! Keep reading!

We can ALL do this and finish together!!

Don’t forget the Bible in 90 Days Twitter Party!  To make keeping up with the party easier, they’ve started a TweetGrid for the parties. Here’s the link:

http://tweetgrid.com/grid?l=2&q1=%23B90days&q2=From%3AMomsToolBox+OR+From%3AJulieDutch&q3=TO%3A_YourUserName&htag=B90Days

You can follow all the posts with the #B90Days tag. Just do a search on Twitter for #B90Days, and the results should be all the posts with that hashtag. I don’t spend very much time on Twitter, but I have attended a few Twitter parties. They can be a fun way to gather with others. I personally can’t keep up with them. lol The Tweetgrid linked above looks like a great way to follow the conversation.

Life with Lily – Book Review

October 13, 2012 by Linda @ Linda's Lunacy

Life with Lily is Book 1 in the ‘Adventures of Lily Lapp’ series.

Lily is six in this story, just starting first grade in a one-room schoolhouse in upstate New York. Her parents are busy building a farm, and soon animals join the family—Jenny the cow and Chubby the miniature horse. A baby brother arrives, too, which Lily has mixed feelings about. (She wanted a sister!) Aside from a mischievous friend like Mandy Mast, Lily is happy at school and even happier at home.

Trouble is brewing at the schoolhouse and change is on the horizon for Lily and her family.

Meet Suzanne:

Suzanne has contracts with Revell for six more books about the Amish, both fiction and non-fiction. She is also the host of “Amish Wisdom·” on toginet.com, a weekly radio program featuring guests who are connected to Simple Living.

MY REVIEW:

I thoroughly enjoyed reading Life with Lily. Yes, I read it by myself, not out loud to my children. They’ll get their turn with this book next.  🙂

In a time when children’s literature often leaves much to be desired, Life with Lily is a breath of fresh air. A lovely book that will introduce your children to the Amish lifestyle. Lily is 6, and tries hard to please her parents. But sometimes, things just happen. Lily doesn’t mean for things to go wrong, they just do.  There are great lessons for kids to learn from reading how Lily listens to her parents and handles her mistakes.

Even though Lily is 6, readers of all ages will enjoy getting a glimpse the Amish through through the eyes of a child.

See what others are saying about Life with Lily on the Blog Tour page.

Edited to add:

Visit the Adventures of Lily Lapp website for fun stuff for the kids. Including games and coloring sheets.

Our Homeschool Week in Review

October 12, 2012 by Linda @ Linda's Lunacy

I haven’t shared about our homeschool week in a couple of weeks. Life has gotten in the way.

Last week, leading up to my mother in laws memorial service on Saturday, was spent rehearsing so the kids and my husband could sing a song at the service. They sang Amazing Grace My Chains are Gone by Chris Tomlin. The schoolwork we got done was several review items we are using.

I was so proud of the 4 kids that sang with my husband for the memorial service. It’s hard singing at a funeral or memorial service anyway, but to do it for your mother/grandmother is incredibly hard. One daughter was sitting on the pew crying hard one minute and the next minute singing in front of everyone one. Something most adults wouldn’t be able to do. I took a few pictures while they were rehearsing before the service. I was going to share, but I think I’ll wait to see if they give me permission to do so. Since they are in bed now, I’ll have to ask them tomorrow. Since they are pictures of a highly personal event, I better not post them without permission.

This week. Ah, this week. We were supposed to get back to a full workload. Until life got in the way again. The first major cold of the season has hit us all. sigh. One daughter was supposed to start voice lessons this week, too. We didn’t even get very much work done on our review items due to everyone feeling so bad. Thankfully for you, I don’t have any sick people pictures to share. Although, the amount of tissues on the living room floor would have made a good picture. No one would have believed it was real, though! lol

Today, I took my cancer FREE kid to the doctor for his annual check up. No problems were found! We still have to wait for the lab results, though. I’m trusting God that those are going to come back fine!

Next week, life is just going to have to step aside so we can get some work done!
