The Confession DVD Review & Giveaway
Disclosure: I received a copy of this dvd for review purposes. I received no other compensation, my opinions are my own.
I love Beverly Lewis books. I loved The Shunning DVD, so I was really looking forward to The Confession being released on DVD. The Confession will be available in stores on June 11th, but I received a copy early so I could review it.
About The Confession DVD
Raised by an Amish family, Katie Lapp (Katie Leclerc, TV’s “Switched at Birth”) always felt the call of another life. Now, her quest to find her birth-mother, Laura Mayfield-Bennett (Sherry Stringfield, TV’s “ER”), has drawn her into world of the “Englishers.” Along the way, two very different men try to help her overcome a devious scheme to steal her rightful inheritance. Business-minded but kind-hearted Justin Wirth (Michael Rupnow) reaches out to discover Katie’s hidden secrets, while her childhood companion Daniel Fisher (Cameron Deane Stewart) sacrifices his own happiness for her future. Katie’s heart is divided between two worlds as love reveals the truth in the moving saga based on the hit novel from New York Times bestselling author Beverly Lewis. Based on the novel by Beverly Lewis and directed by Michael Landon Jr.
While the movie doesn’t follow the book exactly, it’s a great movie. Katie Leclerc does a fine job of portraying the innocence of a young Amish women. You can thoroughly enjoy watching The Confession without having seen the first movie in the series, The Shunning. However, it is easier to follow the story line if you’ve seen the first movie. And you will be better able to see how the Katie Lapp character grows and changes.
So, what do you think of the trailer? Doesn’t it look like a great movie? It is a great movie that the whole family can watch together.
That’s why I’m pleased to say that I get to give away one The Confession DVD to one of you! Simply fill out the Rafflecopter form below to enter.
Ring the Bell DVD Review & Giveaway
I recently received a Ring the Bell DVD to review. Ring the Bell tells the story of a sports agent, Rob Decker. His work is his life. He even says his clients are his kids. To him, there is nothing outside of work. He won’t even return his mother’s phone calls. While trying to sign a high school baseball superstar, Rob ends up in a small town like he’s never been in before.
The small town rallies around the young baseball player and helps him stick with his plan to go to college. The town also rallies around the home that he lives in, an orphanage. Rob is drawn to this simple life that is so far from his own life in the city. He is asked by the brother and sister team that run the orphanage to take all the kids to a Casting Crowns concert. Casting Crowns sings in concert in this movie, as well as doing an altar call. Yes, an altar call right in the middle of the movie. Love it!
Rob’s eyes are opened to the life he has been living. He even calls his mother! After visiting this small town, and the people in it, Rob’s life is transformed. The movie ends with him still in the small town, but you just know that when he goes back to his job and the city, everything will be different now.
In addition to Mark Hall and Casting Crowns, Steven Curtis Chapman and Matthew West have roles in this movie. This family friendly movie was produced by Mark Miller, Beach Street Records’ founder and Casting Crowns’ producer. Miller, who is also the lead singer and founder of country music group Sawyer Brown, co-wrote the script with Thomas Weber and Weber directed the production.
Several former and current Major League Baseball all-stars are also featured in the film: ESPN analysts John Kruk and Rick Sutcliffe (a former Cy Young Award winner), along with Ben Zobrist. Now, I don’t know who any of those baseball people are, but that knowledge isn’t needed to thoroughly enjoy Ring the Bell. Even though the beginning storyline is about baseball, this isn’t a “sports” movie. It’s an awesome family movie about faith and redemption.
There are many funny moments in this movie as well, that will have your whole family laughing. Maggie is my favorite character in the movie. I laughed every time she was on the screen.
Now, you may be wondering about the name of the movie, Ring the Bell. Ringing the bell is a significant part of the movie. You see, whenever someone accepts Jesus as their Savior, they get to ring the bell. This is just awesome. I seriously want to put a bell in my yard! The bell is rung a few times during the movie. But the one that really got to me was at the end of the movie. I cried. Really. I cried at the end of this movie. Not sad tears, but oh, so happy tears.
I highly recommend Ring the Bell for the whole family!

Francois makes some life changing discoveries about his life, career and his faith in God.

Although a fictional story, Break Away was inspired by true events around the recession that left people without work. The message brings hope and offers practical and Biblical solutions in a very entertaining way. Break Away is Dove Family Approved and suitable for all ages.
I watched Break Away with my whole family including my 12 year old and three teenagers. This is a great family movie. While younger kids won’t grasp what it truly means to not be able to find a job and provide for your family, they will still enjoy watching this movie. Kids, and adults, will like the bike race scenes.
The Break Away DVD is being released on April 23rd. You can also pre-order it from Amazon. Break Away DVD (Affiliate Link)

This is Our Time – DVD Review & Giveaway
I recently received a This is Our Time, distributed by Pure Flix, dvd to review. This is Our Time is an inspirational film about what it really means, and what it really takes, to follow the call of God in your life. While following five friends who have just graduated from college, you see how their strong belief in God binds them together.
The movie tells the stories of Luke and Alé , who marry right after school and move to India. They serve as missionaries for Embrace A Village, a ministry that cares for those afflicted with leprosy and their families; aspiring financier Catherine, who joins a prestigious financial institution determined to make an impact on corporate America; Ryder, who lands an impressive job in social media and can’t wait to use the powerful medium for a greater good; and Ethan who is seemingly the odd man out, who struggles to find his God-given-purpose and feels sidelined by God. They all are trying to make a meaningful difference in the world.
“What they all come to learn is that it never really was their time,” Arnold said. “It always was, always is, God’s time.”
I really loved This is Our Time! It is an awesome movie that the whole family can watch together. I loved the characters, the story line, and the way the characters faith in God is portrayed. There is nothing in this movie that little kids can’t watch. One of the characters dies, but her death is not shown, though the funeral, the grieving, and the aftermath of her death are. When she dies, the movie realistically shows how the friendship of the group, and their faith, are tested.
This is Our Time shows that although we may be following God’s plan for our lives that doesn’t mean that every thing is going to go perfectly for us. Even though our lives may not turn out the way “we” have planned, God as a plan for our lives. When we find trouble and heartache along the way, we can rest assured that God is there to comfort us and that His plans are far better than our plans.
While the characters in This is Our Time are fictional, the Embrace a Village is real. There is a short video on the dvd that explains about the village and what it does. When you watch the movie, make sure you go to the dvd menu and watch this video. It is well worth the time.

This is Our Time will be available nationwide on April 16th. I highly recommend you get this movie to share with your family and friends.

Home Run Book Review & Giveaway
The book Home Run is a novelization of the movie by the same name. Home Run the movie will be in theaters April 19. Home Run the book is available to order now. Read the book before you go to the movie! I prefer to read the book before seeing the movie as movies usually change parts of the story. Since the book Home Run is a novelization of the movie, I’m expecting the book and the movie to be in sync.
Baseball star Cory Brand knows how to win. But off the field, he’s spiraling out of control. Haunted by old wounds and regrets, his future seems as hopeless as his past. Until one moment-one mistake-changes everything. To save his career, Cory must go back to the town where it all began. His plan is simple: coach the local baseball team, complete a recovery program, and get out as fast as possible. Instead, he runs headfirst into memories he can’t escape … and the love he left behind. Faced with a second chance he never expected, Cory embarks on a journey of faith, transformation and redemption. And along the way, he discovers a powerful truth: no one is beyond the healing of God. A novel based on the major motion picture starring Vivica A. Fox and Scott Elrod, Home Run is an inspirational story of the hope and freedom God offers each of us.
The book Home Run is written by Travis Thrasher, who is the author of more than a dozen works of fiction. Because this book follows Cory, an alcoholic through his hard times, it is not a book for kids. Despite the sometimes graphic descriptions of his behavior, the story line is a good one. Home Run follows Cory from his childhood, shown in flashback scenes, through his glory days in baseball, to his fallen days of alcoholism. The book doesn’t leave him down, though. Through attending a Celebrate Recovery program that his agent demands he attend, Cory finds his way out of his troubles by turning to God.
Our church started a Celebrate Recovery group last year. I personally haven’t attended any meetings, but have family members that have. Celebrate Recovery is not just for drug or alcohol addictions, but for all of lifes habits, hurts and hang ups.
Home Run is a moving story of what happens when someone gives their life to God. Bodies are healed of addictions, relationships restored, and dreams do come true.
